Bucks Bring Back Simoes

LAREDO, Texas â The 2004 CHL President's Cup Champion Laredo Bucks announced today that they have signed forward Steve Simoes to a contract for the 2004-05 CHL season. In 58 regular season games the 6'2" 205 pound forward scored 17 goals and totaled 34 points to go with 116 PIMs in his rookie campaign.
"He is a very fast player and very competitive," said Bucks head coach Terry Ruskowski. "Once he gains confidence by scoring he will really take off. That confidence will come with time and the chance to play with guys who can help him score. I am happy to have him back, his work ethic is great and so is his attitude."
In the playoffs Simoes scored four goals in 16 games as he helped the Bucks capture the President's Cup title. He was terrific in a defensive role, often matching up against the high powered lines of the opponents.
"I wanted to come back," said Simoes. "I think Laredo is a place that will really help me in my hockey career. We have good coaching and the way we are treated so well makes it easier for a player to play well. I can't wait to get things started again."
Training camp for the Bucks opens on October 11th. The Bucks host an exhibition game at the LEC on October 17thagainst the Mexican National Ice Hockey Team. Laredo opens the 2004-05 CHL season on the road October 22nd in San Angelo. The Bucks begin the home campaign on October 23rdagainst the Corpus Christi Rayz.
