Des Moines Buccaneers News Release
The Buccaneers will play seven of their next nine games at 95KGGO Arena. This weekend will feature two games at the "Madhouse on Hickman." On Friday night, the Bucs will take on the Green Bay Gamblers for the first time this season. Currently, the Gamblers have a record of 2-7-1 and are in sixth place in the Eastern Division. They are coming off being swept by the Sioux City Musketeers this past weekend. Sioux City defeated the Gamblers 6-4 on Friday night and 6-0 on Saturday night. Last season the Bucs were 1-1-2 against the Gamblers.
Saturday, the Buccaneers will face the Lincoln Stars for the third time this season. The Buccaneers are 1-1-0 against the Stars in this young season. The Stars were swept on the road this past weekend at Indiana. The Ice defeated the Stars 5-1 on Friday and 8-4 on Saturday. The last time the Buccaneers and Stars took the ice, the Buccaneers came out with a 4-1 victory at 95KGGO Arena on October 13. Forward Nielsson Arcibal scored two goals and the Bucs scored powerplay goals on three of their four goals.
Week Review
The Buccaneers completed three games with the Tri-City Storm this past weekend. On Friday night, the Buccaneers got a 4-2 victory at the FirsTier Event Center in Kearney, Nebraska where Chris Knowlton (2,3) and Nate Dewhurst (2,3) each scored a pair of goals for the Buccaneers. Goaltender Joe Rodwell finished with 33 saves in net for the Buccaneers.
On Saturday night, the same two teams met again at 95KGGO Arena in Urbandale. They began the night finishing the suspended game from October 6 which was stopped due to inclement weather and ice conditions. Tri-City was able to hold on for the 2-1 victory as the final 16:25 of the third period was held scoreless. Derek Elliott (4) had the lone Bucs goal dating back to October 6 before the game was suspended. After the suspended game was completed, the two teams battled it out again in the regularly scheduled game. Tri-City prevailed with a 3-0 shutout win over the Buccaneers. Fredrik Bergman made 22 saves in the defeat for the Bucs.
Bus Trip to Green Bay - Dec. 8
The Des Moines Buccaneers Booster Club is planning a trip to Green Bay on Saturday, December 8 to watch the Bucs take on the Gamblers. The bus trip is open to ALL BUCS FANS. Cost is $80.00 per person (includes ticket to game). Please contact Jana Baker at 515-494-6099 to reserve your spot. Seating is limited to the first 47 people to sign up. Deadline to sign up will be Monday, November 26. Departure time will be 8:00am on Saturday morning.
Simon Nears 100th Victory
Buccaneers Head Coach/General Manager Regg Simon is two victories away from his 100th regular season win as a USHL head coach. He currently has 98 victories in his USHL career. He has 79 wins with the Buccaneers and 19 with the Tri-City Storm during the 2002-03 season.
