Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence goaltender Michael Hutchinson stopped 20 shots to register his first shutout of the season as the Bruins defeated the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, 2-0, at Dunkin' Donuts Center.
Providence ended a 0-0 tie at 5:58 of the third, while skating on a 5-on-4 advantage. Taking the puck across the Penguins blue line, Jamie Tardif slid a backdoor pass toward the net that was tapped past goalie Jeff Zatkoff by Craig Cunningham.
The Bruins doubled their lead when they converted once again on the power play, making it 2-0 with 4:09 left in regulation. Christian Hanson's bid from the perimeter tipped off of Graham Mink and bounced into the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton net to put the game out of reach.
The second period was a rough and tumble affair that saw five fights and a combined 79 minutes of penalties. The Penguins received a five-minute power play late in the period after a boarding major on Bobby Robins, but were unable to score.
Zatkoff's record goes to 18-17-0 on the season, having made 23 saves on 25 shots. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton was 0-for-5 on the man-advantage and 3-for-5 on the penalty kill.
