Minnesota Wild Recalls Goalie Matt Hackett

Saint Paul, MN - Minnesota Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher on Friday announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has recalled goaltender Matt Hackett from the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League (AHL). The team also activated right wing Cal Clutterbuck from Injured Reserve and placed goaltender Darcy Kuemper on Injured Reserve.

Hackett joins the Wild for the first time this season after playing in 42 games with Houston, posting a 19-19-3 record, 2.56 GAA and .910 SV%. The native of London, Ont., who celebrated his 23rd birthday yesterday, made 24 saves to earn the victory in the Aeros' 5-1 win in Abbotsford Saturday. He has started eight consecutive games with the Aeros since Feb. 12, posting a 5-3-0 record, 1.85 GAA and .934 SV% in that span.

Last season, Hackett set an NHL record for the longest shutout streak to start a career at 102:48 and went 3-6-0 with a 2.37 GAA and .922 SV% in 12 games with the Wild. He posted a 34-save shutout in 58:49 of relief at San Jose in his NHL debut Dec. 6, 2011. The 6-foot-2, 179-pound netminder was named the NHL's Second Star of the Week on Dec. 12 after stopping 76-of-78 shots in his first two NHL games, earning both victories with a 1.01 GAA and .974 SV%.

Clutterbuck returns to the Wild lineup after missing the last six games with a lower-body injury suffered in Edmonton on Feb. 21. The 25-year-old has four points (2-24) in 16 games with Minnesota this season. Kuemper was placed on Injured Reserve after stopping 14-of-15 shots in relief Tuesday in Chicago. The 22-year-old has posted a 1-2-0 record, 2.22 GAA and .924 SV% in his first four NHL games after being recalled from Houston Feb. 12.

Houston will play a pair of games in Charlotte next weekend, starting at 6 p.m. on Saturday Mar.9. The teams will also play on Sunday, Mar. 10 at 2 p.m. to round out a two-game set at Time Warner Cable Arena. The Aeros return home on Thursday, Mar. 14 at 7:05 p.m. as Houston hosts Abbotsford at Toyota Center. The game marks a "Thirsty Thursday", where fans may take their ticket stub to The Maple Leaf Pub (Smith and Elgin). The first 500 fans to The Maple Leaf Pub will receive a second drink free with their ticket stub.
