Wisconsin Wolfpack running back and kick returner Derrick Brown was named the Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL) Special Teams Player of the Week for week three of the season.

Brown opened the game against the Chicago Slaughter by returning the opening kickoff 53 yards for a touchdown. He nearly duplicated the feat later in the game, during the Wolfpack's 40-36 loss to Chicago at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wis.

The Texas A&M product averaged 25.8 yards per return and accounted for 167 all-purpose yards.

"Derrick is a bruiser," said Wolfpack offensive coordinator Dave Mogensen. "That's why we like having him on kickoffs. He can punish the other team a little bit."

Brown didn't need to bull through many defenders on either big return.

The opening kickoff was a squib kick that rolled into the front corner of the end zone. Brown picked it up, got a couple of key blocks and went untouched down the Wolfpack sideline for 53 yards and the touchdown.
