Portland Thunder News Release

PORTLAND, ORE. - The Thunder made a few moves that they hope will help put them into the playoffs over the last couple of days, re-acquiring wide receiver/kick returner Duane Brooks, activating defensive lineman Marquis Jackson, and picking up defensive back Okachukwu Okoroha.

Brooks (5-10, 185), the team's leader in receptions when he went out earlier in the season with an injury, will bring the offense a type of receiver it's lacked since Alvance Robinson went down with an injury of his own a couple weeks ago. Brooks compiled 45 receptions for 479 yards and seven touchdowns in nine games to start the season, but his biggest contribution was in the return game, where he picked up 939 yards on 50 returns.

Jackson (6-4, 265), who was in training camp with the Thunder, was the top junior college defender in California's College of the Canyons (12 sacks), a two-time All-SWAC pick at Texas Southern (36 tackles for loss, 14 sacks in 2010-2011), and then came to Portland State in his senior season and racked up 36 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks in his lone season as a Viking.

Okoroha (6-1, 205) comes to the Thunder via Boston College and Marshall University. At Boston College, he made 34 tackles in 21 games as a free safety.

In order to make room for the new arrivals, defensive lineman Ayo Idowu and newly acquired wide receiver Kevin Cummings were placed on reassignment.

Brooks, Jackson, and Okoroha will all be eligible for Saturday's game against the Los Angeles KISS, starting at 7 p.m. in the Moda Center. The game will be televised on CSN Northwest and broadcast via radio on 750 AM The Game.
