Buffalo Beauts News Release

The Buffalo Beauts completed a weekend sweep of the Connecticut Whale by holding on to a 6-4 victory on Sunday at Northtown Center at Amherst.

Buffalo took a commanding 4-1 lead in the first period on goals by Brooke Stacey, Taylor Accursi, Cassidy MacPherson and MJ Pelletier. The tally by MacPherson was the first of her NWHL career, while Pelletier led the Beauts' offensive attack on the day with three points (1G, 2A).

"So important to get these two wins," said Pelletier. "I think it will help us a lot in the long run. Especially to bounce back after the two games in Boston, to come back and have those two wins here - it was a big character-weekend for us, and it's going to be worth it in the long run."

Connecticut mounted a comeback and came within a goal of tying the score. The Whale's Kayla Meneghin, Jordan Brickner, Emma Vlasic, and Haley Payne scored to narrow the gap and trim Buffalo's lead to 5-4 in the third period.

With the Whale pulling Sonjia Shelly in a desperate attempt to tie the score, Stacey pounced on a loose puck in the neutral zone and put home Buffalo's sixth and the last goal of the game.

Thanks to her two-goal performance, Stacey is now the NWHL's leading goal scorer. With six goals and two assists on the season, she has recorded at least a point in all five games.

"We've connected pretty well as a team since the first game, and it's continued," said Stacey.

"I went into this weekend really believing this was a key moment in our season," said Beauts head coach Pete Perram. " We've got a bit of a break until our next game so we needed to come out and really show what we've got, and really demonstrate that this team has come together. They absolutely did that this weekend."
