Broncos Winning Streak Snapped at Five in 14-10 Loss to Amarillo

Amarillo, TX-The Laredo Broncos slugged 10 runs but it wasn't enough as the Amarillo Dillas won the game by the score of 14-10 on Sunday in Amarillo. The Broncos continue their 8 game road trip, with the middle game of a 3 game set with the Dillas on Monday night. For more information you can call (956)-723-BASE (2273).

The Dillas would strike first in the bottom of the 1st inning. With one out, Broncos starter Richard Bartlett walked Keith Brachold, Gary Schneidmiller, and Danny Bravo on 12 pitches all out of the strike zone. The next batter AJ Johnson would hit a 2 run single scoring both Brachold and Schneidmiller. That gave the Dillas the early 2-0 lead.

Laredo would get a run in the top of the 2nd inning. Edgard Clemente led off with a single. With one out and Ben Tinius batting, Dillas catcher Justin Wenger tried to pick off Clemente at 1st but his throw went into right field, which allowed Clemente to go to 3rd base. Tinius would then follow with a single scoring Clemente and making the score 2-1.

Amarillo would extend their lead in the bottom of the 2nd. Justin Wenger led off the inning with a double. The next batter Josh Ashton was hit by a pitch. Josh Ashton would then hit a rbi single scoring Wenger and moving Ashton to 3rd. Then with 1 out, Gary Schnedimiller hit a sacrifice fly scoring Ashton and making the score 4-1.

The Broncos would take the lead in the top of the 3rd inning. Anthony Bennett walked to lead off the inning. Steven Wright would then be hit by a pitch which moved Bennett to 2nd. Arnoldo Ponce then hit a ground rule double which scored Bennett and advanced Wright to 3rd. Dwayne White then stepped up and hit a 2 run single scoring both Wright and Ponce. Edgard Clemente followed with a single of his own putting runners on 1st and 2nd. With 1 out, Ben Tinnius stepped up and hit a 3 run home run, his 3rd of the season. In total the Broncos scored 6 run on 4 hit and now lead by a score 7-4.

The Dillas would strike back in their half of the 3rd. With one out Andrew Wong walked and went to 2nd on a single by Sam Mclain. Justin Wenger then reached base on an error by Eric Padilla to load the bases. Josh Ashton then delivered a 2 run single scoring both Wong and Mclain. Wenger would go to 3rd base and on the throw Ashton took 2nd. Stephen Douglas would then hit a rbi ground out scoring Wenger. That tied the game up at 7.

Laredo would retake the lead in the 4th inning. With one out, Steven Wright hit a solo home run, his 4th of the season. Arnoldo Ponce would then follow with a double and score on a single by Dwayne White which gave the Broncos a 9-7 lead.

The Broncos would tack on another run in the 5th inning when Luany Sanchez led off the inning with a solo home run, his 14th of the season. That gave the Broncos a 3 run lead 10-7.

Amarillo would tie the game back up in the bottom of the 6th. Josh Ashton led off with a single and then went to 2nd on a single by Stephen Douglas. Keith Brachold would then double in both runners. That would do it for Bartlett as he was relieved by Nathan Crawford. Crawford would give up a rbi double to Gary Schneidmiller scoring Brachold on the play. That tied the game at 10.

Bartlett ended up going 5+ inning for the Broncos giving up 10 runs 9 of which were earned on 10 hits. He walked 4 batters and struck out 4 as well.

The Dillas would strike again in the 7th inning against Crawford. Sam Mclain led off with a triple. After a ground out, Josh Ashton singled him in. Stephen Douglas would then walk. Keith Brachold then delivered a rbi single scoring Ashton and advancing Douglas to 3rd. Gary Schneidmiller then hit a sacrifice fly scoring Douglas. That gave Amarillo a 13-10 lead.

The Broncos threatened to score in the 8th. Eric Padilla led off with a walk and then went to 2nd on a walk by Anthony Bennett. That would do it for Dillas starter Marcos Castillo as Eric Smith came into the game. Steven Wright would sacrifice bunt the runners to 2nd and 3rd. Arnoldo Ponce would ground out to the pitcher with no advance by the runners. Dwayne White came up and had a 2-2 count on him, when home plate umpire Kate Seargent called him out on strikes on a pitch that was clearly well off the plate. That would end the inning an keep the Broncos down 13-10.

David Watkins would come into the game in the 8th inning for the Broncos. He would walk the first man he faced in AJ Johnson. After a wild pitch sent Johnson to 2nd, both Andrew Wong and Sam Mclain would strike out. Justin Wenger would then hit a double scoring Johnson on the play. That would give the Dillas a 14-10 leading heading into the top of the 9th.

Eric smith would come in and give up a single to Luany Sanchez, but that was it as the Broncos fell by a score of 14-10

The Broncos scored 10 runs on 14 hits and committed 1 error, while the Dillas scored 14 runs on 16 hits and committed 1 error.

The Broncos now fall to 27-25 on the season. The Broncos will be back in action on Monday night when they play game 2 of a 3 game set against the Amarillo Dillas at 7:05.
