
Broncos Swept Out of Edinburg

Edinburg, TX-The Laredo Broncos playoff hopes diminished yet again as they lost to the Edinburg Coyotes by a score of 4-1 on Sunday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. The Broncos head home for their final series at Veterans Field for the 2008 season as they face they Coyotes on Tuesday in the start of a 3 game series. The Coyotes took the lead in the 2nd inning. Eric Gonzalez walked to start the inning and went to 2nd on a single by Mayobanex Santana. Robert Matlock was attempting a sacrifice bunt, but was hit by a pitch to load the bases. With 1 out, Alex Entrekin hit a 2 run single scoring Gonzalez and Santana. That was followed by a single by Angelo Fermin scoring Matlock and making the score 3-0.
The Broncos would get on the board in the 4th inning. Matt Imwalle doubled to start the inning. With 1 out, Dwayne White and Arnoldo Ponce drew back to back walks to load the bases. Ivan Reyes then hit a sacrifice fly scoring Imwalle and making the score 3-1.
The Coyotes would strike again in their half of the 4th. With one out Alex Entrekin singled and then stole 2nd base. Angelo Fermin followed with a double scoring Entrekin and giving Edinburg the 4-1 lead.
Sean Donlin would pitch 2 more solid innings for the Broncos as he left after the 6th inning. He gave up 4 runs on 7 hits. He walked 3 batters and struck out 3, and was in line for the loss. Maximo De La Cruz came in to pitch the 7th.
De La Cruz would pitch 2 scoreless innings of relief as the Broncos headed into the top of the 9th down by 3 runs. Luke Prihoda would come in for the Coyotes looking for the save. Laredo would go quietly in the 9th as they lost to Edinburg by a score of 4-1.
The Broncos scored 1 run on 4 hits and committed 1 error, while the Coyotes scored 4 runs on 8 hits and committed 0 errors.
The Broncos now fall to 37-47 on the season. Laredo is now 5 games back of Edinburg for the 4th and final playoff spot with 6 games to play. The Broncos will be back in action on Tuesday when the play their final home series in Laredo for the 2008 season as they play the Coyotes in game 1 of a 3 game set.
