
Broncos Offense Gets Back on Track With Win Against San Angelo

San Angelo, TX-The Laredo Broncos evened up their series at 1-1 against the San Angelo Colts with an 11-6 victory at Foster Field on Wednesday afternoon. The Broncos continue their 9 game road trip with the finale of their 3 game series against the San Angelo Colts on Wednesday night. For more info call (956)-722-BASE (2273).
For the 2nd straight game the Colts got the scoring going first. In the 2nd inning Jose Torres led off with a single then after a one out walk to John Beal, both runner advanced to 2nd and 3rd on a wild pitch. Then with 2 outs John Anderson singled up the middle scoring both runners to give San Angelo an early 2-0 lead.
The Broncos would get those runs back in the top of the 3rd inning. Mark Lewis led off the inning reaching base on an error. Then with one out Luany Sanchez singled to put runners on the corners. During Edgard Clemente's at bat both runners advanced on a wild pitch and after Clemente struck out, Jose Salas hit a 2 run single to tie the game at 2.
Laredo would pour it on in the top of the 4th grabbing their first lead of the series. Santiago Guerrero led off with a double. After a fly out, Anthony Bennett hit an infield single putting runners on the corner. Mark Lewis hit a groundball to first baseman Andres Rodriguez who tried to force Bennett at 2nd but the throw was hi and Bennett was safe and Guerrero scored on the play. Dwayne White followed with a single to score Bennett. Luany Sanchez then singled to score Lewis and was followed by a 3 run home run by Edgard Clemente giving the Broncos an 8-2 lead.
San Angelo would get 2 more runs in the bottom of the 6th inning. After Jose Torres was hit by a pitch, John Beal singled putting runners on first and 2nd. Tyrone Pendergrass would knock in Torres with a groundout and then John Anderson doubled to score John Beal to make the score 8 to 4 after 6 innings.
Broncos starter Gregorio Martinez left the game after going 6 innings. He gave up 4 runs on 7 hits while striking out 9 hitters, which is a season high. His counterpart for the Colts Brian Herschel did not fare as well. In 4 innings of work he gave up 8 runs 5 of which were earned on 9 hits.
San Angelo would make the score 8-5 in the bottom of the 7th inning when Benny Craig hit a solo shot off of reliever Rusty Jones.
The Broncos would strike back in the top of the 8th inning. Arnoldo Ponce led off with a single and was followed by a walk to Anthony Bennett. Mark Lewis hit a sac bunt to move the runners to 2nd and 3rd. With two outs Luany Sanchez doubled in both runs and was followed by and Edgard Clemente rbi single to give Laredo some insurance runs and an 11-5 lead.
Nathan Crawford came in for Laredo and pitched the 8th and 9th innings giving up a solo home run to Andres Rodriguez in the 9th inning. Later in that inning he would give up a 3 run shot to make the game more interesting at a score of 11-9. But Dan Sausville came in to relieve and in his first apperance picked up the 1 out save as the Broncos pick up their first road victory of the year by a score of 11-6.
The Broncos get their record back to .500 as they are now 4-4 on the season. The 3 game series ends Wednesday night at 7:05 with the final game of the 3 game set against San Angelo.
