
Broncos fall 3-2 to Alexandria

LAREDO, Texas - The Laredo Broncos fell just short by the score of 3-2 to the visiting Alexandria Aces at Veterans Field on Wednesday night. Despite the loss, Laredo remains in the fourth and final playoff spot a half a game ahead of Amarillo. The Broncos take on Alexandria in the rubber match of the series on Thursday. The Aces plated a run off Broncos starter RHP Daryl Roque in the top of the first. Third baseman Richard Paz delivered a one out RBI single to open the scoring.
Alexandria tacked on in the top of the fourth. Shortstop Luis Guance hit a leadoff single, then when he stole second the Broncos made not one, but two throwing errors and he came all the way around to score.
The Aces again plated a single run in the top of the fifth. Left fielder Selwyn Langaigne delivered a two out double to right centerfield to score Paz and make it 3-0.
Aces starter RHP Adam Frey was sparkling thru seven innings, shutting out the Broncos on three hits.
In the bottom of the eighth Laredo finally cracked thru against Frey. Left fielder Mike Serrata beat out a two out infield single and then stole second. Shortstop Arnoldo Ponce singled thru the left side to score Serrata and bring the Broncos within 3-1. RHP Pedro Chivilli came on out of the Aces bullpen to strike out Edwin Maldonado to end the Laredo threat.
In the bottom of the ninth designated hitter Palmer Karr hit a solo homer off LHP closer Justin Dowdy to get the Broncos to within a run, but the comeback fell short. Final Score Alexandria 3, Laredo 2.
Frey went 7.2 innings, allowing five hits and one earned run to get the win and improve to 3-1. Roque allowed three runs, two earned, in six innings and got the loss falling to 10-9. RHP Jerry Dunn worked two scoreless innings of relief, and RHP Matt Zachary fired a perfect inning of relief for Laredo. Dowdy worked the ninth for his fifth save.
