
Broncos Drop Second Game of Series to Colts, 5-4

Harlingen, TX-The Laredo Broncos had the tying run on base but couldn't get him in as the San Angleo Colts won the game by a score of 5-4 on Sunday night at Veterans Field. The Broncos continue on their 6 game home stand with the finale of a 3 game series against the San Angelo Colts on Monday night. For more information you can call (956)-723-BASE (2273).
The Colts grabbed the early lead in the 3rd inning. Bryan Frichter led off with a single and then went to 2nd base on a bunt by John Anderson. Frichter went to 3rd on a groundout and would score on a rbi single by Andres Rodriguez. Aaron Cone then followed with a triple scoring Rodriguez and making the score 2-0.
The Broncos would tie it up in the 4th inning. With 1 out Luany Sanchez walked, and then went to 3rd on a throwing error on a pickoff attempt by Colts starter Frank James. Then with 2 outs, Dwayne White hit a single scoring Sanchez. Arnoldo Ponce followed with a single moving White to 2nd. Matt Imwalle would hit the 3rd straight single of the inning scoring White and making the score tied at 2.
The Colts would regain the lead in the 6th inning. Jason Landreth walked to start off the inning. With 1 out Wyn Diggs singled which moved Landreth to 2nd. Then with 2 away, Bryan Frichter hit a 3 run home run his 12th of the season. That would make the score 5-2.
The Broncos would get a run back in their half of the 6th. With 1 out Arnoldo Ponce hit a solo home run, his 5th of the season. That made the score 5-3.
Broncos starter Santo Hernandez would be done after 6 innings of work. He gave up 5 runs, on 8 hits, he walked 3 batters, and struck out 8. Rusty Jones would come into the game to start the 7th inning.
Jones would pitch 2 innings of scoreless relief as David Wasylak came into the game in the 9th inning. Wasylak would also hold the Colts scoreless as the Broncos headed into the bottom of the 9th trialing by 2. Luke Massetti came in looking for the save for the 2nd straight night.
Matt Imwalle started the inning off with a double and scored on a Ben Tinius rbi single. Anthony Bennett would come in to run for Tinius to put a faster runner on the base path. Josue Gonzalez failed on a bunt attempt as he fouled out for the 1st out. Sean Gamble then reached on a fielder's choice with Bennett out at 2nd. Ivan Reyes would then hit into another fielder's choice ending the game as the Broncos fell 5-4.
The Broncos scored 4 runs on 7 hits and committed 1 error, while the Colts scored 5 runs on 10 hits and committed 1 error.
The Broncos fall to 36-41 on the season. The Broncos will be back in action on Monday when they play game 3 of a 3 game series against the San Angleo Colts in Laredo at 7:35.
