
Broncos bats come alive late in victory over Whitewings

Harlingen, TX-The Laredo Broncos picked up a come from behind victory in their last at bat at Harlingen Field on Friday Night defeating the Whitewings 7-5. The Broncos continue on their 9 game road trip with the 2nd game of a 3 game series against the Harlingen WhiteWings on Saturday Night. For more info call (956)-722-BASE (2273).
Harlingen got the scoring started in the 2nd inning. With two outs Broncos starter Andy Schon gave up a single to Kevin Griffin. Terry Roblez would then come up and hit a 2 run home run to give the WhiteWings a 2-0 lead.
The Broncos would get those runs right back in the top of the 3rd inning. With one out Anthony Bennett walked. Then Dwayne White and Arnoldo Ponce hit back to back singles to load the bases. Luany Sanchez followed with a single of his own scoring Bennett. Edgard Clemente would then ground out but on the out Dwayne White scored to tie the game at 2.
The WhiteWings would grab the lead back in the bottom of the 4th inning. With one out Brian Nichols hit a solo home run to give them a 3-2 lead.
Harlingen would add 2 more runs in the bottom of the 6th. With two outs Kevin Griffin doubled. Terry Roblez followed with a double of his own to score Griffin. Argelis Nunez would then hit a single knocking in Roblez to give the WhiteWings a 5-2 lead.
That would be the end of the day for Broncos starter Andy Schon. He went 6 innings giving up 5 runs on 9 hits and striking out 5. Harlingen's starter Kenny Evoniuk did a great job of shutting down the Broncos offense. He went 7 innings giving up 2 runs on 5 hits and striking out 5.
Laredo would get closer in the top of the 8th inning. With Luany Sanchez on first, Edgard Clement hit into a fielders choice to force Sanchez out at 2nd. The WhiteWings tried to turn the double play but the throw went out of play allowing Clemente to go to 2nd. Then Harlingen reliever Caleb Balbuena was called for a balk to move Clemente to 3rd base. With 2 outs Ivan Reyes would hit a single to score Clemente cutting the lead to 5-3.
The Broncos bats would then explode in the 9th inning against Harlingen closer Derek Bennett. Johnny Lopez singled to lead off the inning. Then with one out Dwayne White walked. Ben Day went out to pinch run for Lopez and he went to 3rd on a single by Arnoldo Ponce which advance White to 2nd. Luany Sanchez singled scoring Day from 3rd but White was thrown out at home leaving the score 5-4. With 2nd and 3rd 2 outs Edgard Clemente hit a ground ball to 3rd baseman Ryan Fox and his low throw got away from the 1st baseman scoring both Ponce and Sanchez giving the Broncos the lead. Jose Salas would follow with a single to put runners on 1st and 2nd. Then Ivan Reyes would hit a rbi single scoring Clemente to give the Broncos a 7-5 lead going to the bottom of the 9th inning.
Benny Cepeda came in to pitch a 1-2-3 9th inning striking out 2 to give Laredo the victory by a score of 7-5.
Rusty Jones picked up the win for the Broncos in 2 innings of relief. He gave up no runs on 1 hit and struck out 2.
With the win The Broncos record is back to .500 at 5-5 while Harlingen falls to 3-7 The 2nd series of Laredo's 9 game road trip continues on Saturday night at 7:05 with the middle game of the 3 game series against the Harlingen WhiteWings.
