
Brodie Merrill Named MLL Defensive Player Of The Week

(Rochester, NY)... Major League Lacrosse, the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced Monday its weekly award winners for the week ending July 20th, according to MLL Commissioner David Gross.
Rochester Rattlers defenseman Brodie Merrill earned the Defensive Player of the week award while Denver Outlaws attackman Matt Brown has been named as the Offensive Player of the Week.
Meanwhile, Kip Turner of the Boston Cannons was selected as the Goalkeeper of the Week and Chicago Machine attackman Mike Leveille earned the Cascade MLL Rookie of the Week award.
Merrill led the Rattlers to their third win in the last four games with an 18-17 victory over the New Jersey Pride on Saturday night. He tallied 12 ground balls and also had an assist in the victory, which moved Rochester into a tie of first place in the Eastern Conference.
The two-time reigning Warrior MLL Defensive Player of the Year, Merrill leads all MLL defensemen with 10 points, scoring three goals with seven assists. He also ranks second among defenders with 48 ground balls.
Brown led the Outlaws to a 15-8 victory over the San Francisco Dragons on Saturday night, scoring a season-high six goals. Named as the Bud Light MVP, the former University of Denver attackman tallied his fourth hat trick of the season. He also recorded the 100th point of his MLL career and now has 88 goals, including a two-point marker, with 11 assists in three seasons.
Brown is tied for fifth on the Outlaws squad with 25 points, scoring 24 goals with an assist in eight games this year.
Turner helped the Cannons earn their fifth win in the last six games with a 14-10 victory over the Washington Bayhawks. Playing in front of his hometown fans, the former University of Virginia netminder made 16 saves, including 12 in the first half.
Turner leads the MLL with a 12.42 goals-against average and has stopped 53.0 percent of the shots he has faced this year.
Leveille scored four goals with an assist to lead the Chicago Machine to a 17-13 victory over the Los Angeles Riptide on Sunday afternoon. He was named as the Bud Light MVP as the Machine snapped Los Angeles' three-game win streak.
Leveille ranks third on the team with 26 points in eight games, scoring 16 goals with 10 assists.
