Bristol White Sox News Release
The Bristol Sox have announced the creation of the Bristol Sox Boosters Club.
The Boosters Club's primary project is to find host families for many of the Sox players and out-of-town interns who call Bristol home for the summer. The Boosters Club also coordinates the preparation of special meals for the team during the season, and helps to promote the Sox locally and regionally.
Richard Robinson, president of the Boosters Club, is excited about the Club.
"My wife, Traci, and I, hosted a Sox player last season, and we thoroughly enjoyed it," said Robinson. "Our children really enjoyed having a professional ballplayer staying with us for a few months, and he [Zach Stoner] was such a nice young man. We've kept in touch with he and his family in the off-season, and look forward to following him through his career."
The Bristol Sox are operated by Bristol Baseball, Incorporated (BBI). BBI president and Sox general manager Mahlon Luttrell echoed Robinson's comments.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for our fans to become personally involved with a Sox player or intern," stated Luttrell. "All over minor league baseball, families have had the opportunity to host players and really get to know these young men as they begin their professional baseball careers. We are excited about expanding this opportunity in Bristol."
Traci Robinson, secretary of the Boosters Club, emphasized that there are opportunities through the Booster Club even for those who cannot host a player during the season.
"We want to try to make sure our players enjoy their time in Bristol, and part of that is treating them to a home cooked meal," she said. "We would love to have area churches and civic groups volunteer to prepare a hot meal for the team during the season. The players are so grateful for these sort of things."
