
Bristol Sox to Host Free Youth Pitch, Hit and Run Competition May 4

The Bristol Sox and Bristol Baseball, Inc. (BBI) will host a free Major League Baseball̨̉ Pitch, Hit & Run̢̢̉ competition for area youth ages 7-14 on Saturday, May 4. The competition will begin at 10 AM at Boyce Cox Field, located at 1501 Euclid Avenue, Bristol, Virginia.
Pitch, Hit & Run̢̢̉ is the official skills competition of Major League Baseball̨̉. This grassroots program is designed to provide youngsters with an opportunity to compete, free of charge, in a competition that recognizes individual excellence in core baseball/softball skills.
"We are excited about bringing this nationwide program to the Twin Cities," stated Sox General Manager and BBI President Mahlon Luttrell. "Our all-volunteer Board is working hard to make this inaugural event in Bristol a success so we can make this an annual event."
BVU Optinet will be at the event, providing hot dogs and drinks to competitors. Also expected to be in attendance is Dingbat, the official Sox mascot.
Boys and girls are divided into four age divisions: 7/8, 9/10, 11/12, 13/14, and have the chance to advance through four levels of competition, including Team Championships at Major League ballparks and the National Finals at the 2013 MLB̢̢̉ All-Star Gamę̉.
The individual Pitching, Hitting and Running Champions, along with the All-Around Champion in each age and gender group at the local competition will be awarded and advance to the sectional level of Competition.
All participants must bring a copy of their birth certificate and have their parent or guardian fill out a registration/waiver form prior to the start of the competition.
