Bristol White Sox News Release
The Bristol Sox drew a total of 23,387 to their 28 home openings this season. Weather cancelled seven of the team's planned home openings, resulting in several doubleheaders being played at Boyce Cox Field this summer. The average attendance of 835 per opening placed the Sox sixth in the league, four spots above last year.
''We are happy to have been able to bring another fun year of professional baseball to the great fans in the Bristol area,'' stated Mahlon Luttrell, general manager of the Sox and president of Bristol Baseball, Incorporated. Bristol Baseball, Incorporated is a non-profit, composed of unpaid volunteers, which operates the Sox.
Walne Weatherly of Bristol came the closest to predicting the season attendance, and has won a $50 gift card from United Southeast Federal Credit Union.
The Sox partnered with Five Guys Burgers and Fries to sponsor a contest for Sox fans to predict the pounds of potatoes used at Five Guys' Bristol location during the Sox season. Debbie Bise of Glade Spring, Virginia, had the closest guess of 18,460 pounds, to the actual total of 19,186 pounds.
In another drawing, June Johnston of Bristol won two reserved seats for 2013.
''Bristol Baseball, Inc. and the Sox are happy to have been able to partner up with local businesses to conduct these, and other promotions, during the 2012 season,'' added Luttrell. ''We are looking forward to even bigger and better things next season, beginning this off-season.''
