Bristol White Sox News Release
The Bristol White Sox have announced most of their 2013 promotional calendar. Nearly every night is filled with exciting giveaways, concerts, discounted admissions, collection drives to benefit local charities and organizations, and more. Some nights will feature multiple promotions.
"All in all, there will be something for everyone at the ballpark this summer," commended Mahlon Luttrell, General Manager of the Sox.
In addition to the recently announced summer concert series on June 25, July 18 and August 1, every Sunday will feature gospel music before the Sox take the field. The Sox, in conjunction with BVU, are also pleased to announce a very special Christian music concert on July 13. More details on the artist, and a full day of events at the ballpark will be announced soon.
Those attending Opening Night's festivities on June 23 may take home a magnetic schedule, courtesy of the Bristol Herald-Courier, if they are one of the first 1,000 fans through the gate. Other giveaways will follow throughout the season, including a backpack for kids on August 7, compliments of Food City.
Perhaps the most unique giveaway of the season will come on July 17, when, to celebrate the upcoming 2013 Baseball Hall of Fame induction ceremonies, the first 250 fans will receive a special bobblehead depicting all of the persons voted in by the Baseball Writers Association of America this year.
College students will be admitted for half-price on select College Nights throughout the season by showing their college I.D. at the ticket window. College Nights include June 29, July 18, August 1, August 8, August 26 and August 30.
Championship Night, honoring all of Bristol's teams to hoist an Appalachian League championship trophy (1922, 1942, 1950, 1972, 1974, 1985, 1998 and 2002) will be June 15. To celebrate the event, which will feature a display of mementos from those great championship teams, fans born in any of those championship seasons will be admitted for half-price by showing proof of their birth year at the ticket window.
All veterans of the United States military will be admitted free of charge on July 1, as the Sox celebrate Veterans' Appreciation Night. All fans will be admitted free on August 6, courtesy of the Virginia Lottery.
The inaugural Bark in the Park event is scheduled for July 28, with a limited number of tickets available to allow fans to bring their dog to the park that evening.
Five always-popular promotions are back on the calendar again, with fireworks courtesy of Pepsi set to light up the night after the Sox-Mariners game on July 3, and Merchant's Night - with lots of great prizes from area businesses - slated for July 27. Last year, the Sox partnered with area merchants to give away more than 450 prizes on Merchant's Night.
Also, Santa and Mrs. Claus are scheduled to take a break from their workshop at the North Pole on July 9 to celebrate Christmas in July with the Sox. Everyone's favorite Deputy from Mayberry will make a special appearance at the ballpark on August 2. On August 29, the Bristol Sox will again show their appreciation for the great Sox fans, with Fan Appreciation Night, when all fans will again be admitted free of charge.
The Sox will encourage fans to bring donations to the ballpark at least five times this season. On June 29, food donations will benefit Feeding America, and on August 3, they will go to the Bristol Food Pantry. On July 8, donations of new and used childrens' books will be accepted for the Bristol Public Library.
The next night, toys will be collected for children as part of Christmas in July. Finally, on August 28, baseball gloves and other equipment will be collected, with childrens' equipment donated to area youth sports programs to assist needy children and adult equipment donated to Gloves 4 Troops, an organization collecting balls and gloves for military personnel stationed overseas. As part of each donation drive, fans donating an item will be entered to win an autographed bat which will be given away on that night.
Additional promotional dates are anticipated. For all the latest, visit www.BristolSox.com, follow the Sox on Twitter (@BristolSox), or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/BristolSox.
