Rochester Brigade News Release

(Rochester, NY)-This week the Rochester Brigade will end their second season of play in the arenafootball2 league, as they face the New Haven Ninjas (5-10) on Saturday, July 27.

The season series is currently tied at a game apiece.  The Brigade won the first meeting 61 to 34 on April 6, and later fell victim to the Ninjas 46 to 28 in the second game on May 3, with both games played at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, New York.

"Even though we've already made the playoffs, this game against New Haven is just as important as the rest," stated Head Coach Mark Saunders.  "Ideally we'd like to end the season .500 (8-8) and head to Albany on a two game winning streak."

This is the first and only trip the Brigade will make to the New Haven Coliseum, as the Ninjas close out their 2002 season.  With a victory the Brigade will win the season series, at two games to one, and head into the playoffs on a winning note.

Players to watch for in this game are OS Martino Theus and QB Matt D'Orazio.  Theus looks to claim the all-time reception record in a single season of 160, previously set by Derrell Mitchell of the Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League in 1998.  D'Orazio will be making attacks by air and by ground.  On the season, he is currently ranked fifth in the league in total offense and third in the league in rushing.  He has registered 331 yards on the ground with 19 touchdowns and has passed for 3,596 yards and 50 touchdowns.  Both players are up for the "2002 Offensive Player of the Year."

Although this is the Brigade's last game of the regular season, it is not the last game of the year.  The Brigade will travel down the New York State I-90 Thruway to face bitter rival the Albany Conquest for a first round playoff match-up on Saturday, August 3.  For more information on how to attend this historical event, the Brigade's first playoff game, check out the team's website at www.rochesterbrigade.com or call 585-292-1530.
