Bridgeport Bluefish News Release

Thanksgiving is a time of turkeys, stuffing and pumpkin pie. Unfortunately, almost 90,000 children in Connecticut face hunger and malnutrition problems — sometimes every day.

To do their part, the Bridgeport Bluefish will hold their fourth annual "Bridgeport Bluefish Strike Out Hunger" Thanksgiving food drive. The Bluefish are doing it in conjunction with Connecticut Food Bank, which is the largest centralized source of donated, emergency food in the state. Anyone making a cash or food donation will receive a voucher good for two free loge box tickets to a 2005 Bluefish game. The food drive will be held from 10:00am-4:00pm on Saturday, November 20th and Sunday, November 21st at the Shaw's supermarket on Sylvan Ave. in Bridgeport.

During last year's "Bridgeport Bluefish Strike Out Hunger" Thanksgiving food drive, the team collected 205 frozen turkeys and 1,785 pounds of nonperishable food. It provided a traditional Thanksgiving feast to clients of CFB member agencies in Fairfield and New Haven Counties.

Connecticut Food Bank supplies food products and resources to more than 500 emergency feeding programs such as soup kitchens, shelters, food pantries, and adult and child day care centers throughout Connecticut. Since 1982, CFB has distributed more than 100 million pounds of food.

Food donations should be in the form of non-perishable goods or frozen turkeys. Items of particular need include: tuna and canned meat, peanut butter, chunky soups and beef stew, macaroni and cheese, spaghetti & sauce, rice, dry and canned beans, canned vegetables and fruits, powdered milk, 100% fruit juice, and "sugar free", "low sodium" and "no salt" items. Other personal care items are also much needed, such as: shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, diapers, detergent, deodorant, shaving cream, razors, and hairbrushes.

If you have any questions, call the Bluefish at (203) 345-4800 or Connecticut Food Bank at (203) 469-5000 (Main Office) or (203) 256-1935 (Fairfield Warehouse).

The Bridgeport Bluefish Professional Baseball Club, a charter team in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, plays its home games at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard, located off Exit 27 of I-95 on the corner of Broad Street and South Frontage Road in Bridgeport.
