Bridgeport Acquires Pitcher Draxton

(Bridgeport, Conn. - February 18, 2015 ) - The Bridgeport Bluefish today announced the acquisition and signing of pitcher Erik Draxton . Draxton was acquired in a trade with the Amarillo Thunderheads of the American Association in exchange for infielder Juan Martinez.

"It's clear that Erik has been extremely successful throughout his professional career," says Bluefish manager Ricky VanAsselberg. "We believe that he will be a great addition to our pitching staff this season."

Draxton enters his fifth season of professional baseball and first with the Bridgeport Bluefish. The right-hander is looking to build on a solid 2014 campaign that saw him play for two teams in the Independent American Association, Amarillo and Fargo-Moorhead. He posted a 3.44 ERA in 47 combined appearances, with six saves, 53 strikeouts and a 9.6 K/9.

The 28-year old broke in with the Southern Illinois Miners of the Frontier League in 2010 and has spent his entire career in the Independent ranks. After spending two years with the Miners, he played one season with San Angelo in 2012, which was the best of his career. Draxton compiled a 2.41 ERA over 38 appearances, where he racked up 23 saves, five victories, and 32 strikeouts. The following year, he pitched with Amarillo, where he tallied 23 saves and a 3.08 ERA in 48 appearances.

Draxton attended Cal State Bakersfield and Phoenix College before beginning his professional career.
