
Brevig Named to Big Ten All-Freshman Team

The Big Ten Conference announced the first ever All-Conference teams and individual awards. The All-Conference teams and other awards were selected by the league's coaches and a media panel. Former Blizzard defenseman Drew Brevig was selected to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team for his outstanding play during the 2013-2014 season. As a freshman at Ohio State University, Brevig has seen significant ice time and has contributed a great deal to the Buckeyes' success.
"We couldn't be more proud of Drew and all that he has done this season," said Blizzard head coach Cory Laylin. "It is a huge honor for him and an amazing accomplishment."
The Lakeville, MN native has played in 31 games for the Buckeyes this season and has 14 points with 12 assists. He leads Big Ten freshman defensemen in scoring and is ranked 10th in the country in that category. He is also tied for eight in scoring among all Big Ten newcomers and is seventh among all defenseman. He is even or better in 25 of his last 28 games and is +10 on the season. "That is a huge step going from the NAHL to the Big Ten Conference and to do what he has done. As an organization that is why we are here, to provide young men with these types of opportunities. And it couldn't have happened to a more deserving individual," added Laylin.
Brevig played in 53 games with the Blizzard last season. With 10 goals and 24 assists, his 34 points was tied for sixth in the North American Hockey League among all defenseman.He helped lead the Blizzard to the NAHL Central Division playoffs in the team's first year in Brookings.
Joining Brevig on the All-Freshman Team were fellow Buckeyes Nick Schilkey (F) and Christian Frey (G). Michigan's JT Compher (F) and Michael Downing (D) were also selected, as well as Minnesota's Hudson Fasching (F). Compher was named Freshman of the Year in the league.
The Buckeyes have posted a Ohio State will take on Michigan State at the Big Ten Tournament this Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, MN.
The Blizzard will travel to Minot this weekend for a road series against the Minotauros on Friday and Saturday. Puck will drop at 7:35pm both nights.
