Brett Hambright Named Klamath Falls Gems Assistant Coach

Klamath Falls, Oregon: Tuesday, December 4, 2012: The Klamath Falls Gems have hired Brett Hambright to assist head coach Mitch Karraker for the 2013 season. Karraker and Hambright were both catchers during their playing careers.

Hambright, from Corona, CA, attended Temescal Canyon High School. During his prep career, he was All League four times, All Valley 3 times, All CIF 2 times and was MVP of his league his senior season.

Following high school, Brett played at UC Riverside in 2007-08. He then transferred to Riverside Community College for the 2008-09 seasons. Hambright ended his playing career under legendary coach George Horton at the University of Oregon from 2010-12, playing for Team USA in 2012.

Brett was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in 2007 and the Colorado Rockies in 2009, however, on both occasions decided not to sign.

With his playing career completed, Hambright is an undergraduate assistant coach on the Horton's University of Oregon staff. Brett's responsibilities include helping with the catchers and coaching first base.

"We are excited to have Brett on our coaching staff," said General Manager Grant Wilson. "Brett is looking forward to helping players from all over the country better their game, while also learning from them and becoming the best coach he can be."

The Klamath Falls Gems are members of the West Coast League, the Diamond Standard among summer college baseball. The eleven-team, professional style wood-bat league features pro prospects from major conferences across the country. More than 120 WCL alums played affiliated professional baseball last season, and 20 ex-WCL stars played in the Major Leagues last season.
