Boston Breakers News Release

The Breakers return east after a 1-0 loss to first place FC Gold Pride last weekend in Hayward, California. Kelley O'Hara scored the lone goal for Bay Area in the 38th minute of the match, giving her team their first victory in their newly renovated Pioneer Stadium. Despite the loss, the Breakers saw several scoring opportunities, as Lauren Cheney, Kristine Lilly, and Fabiana all hit the post on three different occasions. With their second loss to FC Gold Pride this season, the Breakers remain in 6th place in the league standings, while Bay Area sits at the top of the table with 22 points.

Boston gets a chance for redemption when they take on the Chicago Red Stars this Friday, May 25 at 7:30 pm at Harvard Stadium. Chicago is also looking to rebound from a loss last weekend when their three-game unbeaten streak was snapped as they fell to the Atlanta Beat 1-0.

The Red Stars lead this year's series 1-0-0 as they defeated the Breakers 2-0 on May 1 giving the Breakers their first loss of the season. The match saw pressure for both sides, but Chicago found the back of the net twice in the second half with goals from Casey Nogueira and Cristiane, who now leads the Red Stars in scoring with three goals.

A win will be the first at home for Boston this season and will move the Breakers ahead of Chicago in the league standings. Tickets are still available for Friday night's match on www.bostonbreakers.com and at the Harvard Stadium Box Office prior to the game. The first 500 fans into the stadium will receive a free Stephanie Cox trading card presented by Stonyfield Farm.
