Allston, MA (April 15, 2011) - The Boston Breakers (1-0-0) are ready for their home opener following a commanding, 4-1 win over the Atlanta Beat. Sunday, April 17, at 6 p.m. at Harvard Stadium, the Breakers take on the newest entry in Women ‚¬â„¢s Professional Soccer, Western New York Flash, a team that features a stacked lineup of some of the best international players.

‚¬Å“The Flash have a talented and experienced team throughout their lineup and certainly up top with (Christine) Sinclair, and (Alex) Morgan, ‚¬Â Head Coach Tony DiCicco said. ‚¬Å“To contain them, I think we have to keep the ball well and also force these players to defend a bit. We also have to defend in groups. ‚¬Â

Boston hopes to open its first home game on a better note than it did in 2010 when the Breakers tied the Philadelphia Independence, 1-1. The 4-1 win over the Beat saw four different Breakers score (Jordan Angeli, rookie Keelin Winters, Kelley O ‚¬â„¢Hara, and Kasey Moore). With that victory, the Breakers have a bit of momentum heading into Sunday ‚¬â„¢s match, but DiCicco cautioned that momentum can only get you so far against an explosive team such as the Flash.

‚¬Å“A win is always a confidence boost, but that won't get us anything against the Flash, ‚¬Â DiCicco said. ‚¬Å“We have to be better in almost every aspect of the game. They have a bit of an advantage because they have a tape to scout from, whereas we don't know how they play at all, but we have a game under our belt, which is a good thing. ‚¬Â

The Breakers suffered a huge blow in the win over Atlanta, losing Angeli to a season-ending ACL injury.

‚¬Å“We will not be able to replace Angeli with a similar type player, so we have to look at finding someone who can be successful, but in a different way, ‚¬Â DiCicco said. ‚¬Å“Jordi did a lot for us, and also scored goals, which, of course, is difficult to replace. However, someone will get a chance, and hopefully they will do the most with it. ‚¬Â

Sunday ‚¬â„¢s game takes place at 6 p.m. at Harvard Stadium.
