
Breakers add Monroe to Roster

NEEDHAM, MA (May 21, 2003) - The Boston Breakers signed former Philadelphia Charge midfielder Mary-Frances Monroe and waived rookie Marcia Wallis today.
Monroe was released by Philadelphia on Monday when the Charged signed Emily Burt off the waiver wire. Monroe will replace Wallis on the Breakers roster.
A former midfielder for the Philadelphia Charge, Monroe is a native of Connecticut and played for three years at UConn and one at UCLA. She was drafted in the 2002 WUSA draft by the Philadelphia Charge in the 12th round. Monroe has played only one game this season for the Charge. She has played in 16 total games with 12 starts. She has scored one goal and notched two assists in 911 minutes.
Wallis, the Breakers second round selection in the 2003 draft, was waived on Monday after playing in only 97 minutes. She did earn her only WUSA start on May 10th vs. New York and appeared in three games. The Breakers will host the Atlanta Beat on Sunday, May 25th at Nickerson Field (7 p.m.). The first 1,500 fans under 14 to enter the gates will receive a Kristine Lilly Bobblehead. Tickets will be available at the box office on Sunday for $13, $18 and $27.
