Allentown, PA. - The Richmond Braves beat the Lehigh Valley IronPigs 6-0 Friday at Coca-Cola Park. The Braves erupted for five runs in the sixth inning to roll to their fourth straight win and spoil the IronPigs inaugural home opener.
The Braves took a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI double by Brandon Jones. Richmond blew the game open in the sixth. Scott Thorman knocked in a run with a single. J.C. Holt chased two home with a double. Clint Sammons scored on a wild pitch and Holt came home on a throwing error to give the Braves a 6-0 lead.
Meanwhile four Braves pitchers scattered six hits. Damian Moss, making a spot start, became the fourth Braves starter in eight games to enjoy a scoreless outing. Jonathon Rouwenhorst earned the win. Ryan Basner and Jeff Ridgway also enjoyed scoreless outings as the Braves notched their first shutout of the season.
Thorman, Holt, and Jones had two hits each for the Braves. Chris Woodward had two hits for the IronPigs. J.D. Durbin took the loss.
The Braves and IronPigs continue their series Saturday at 7:05 at Coca-Cola Park. Francisley Bueno will pitch for the Braves against Travis Blackley.
