Worcester Bravehearts News Release
Nashua, NH - The Bravehearts entered Tuesday's game against the Nashua Silver Knights leading the Futures Collegiate Baseball League in home runs with 23 on the season. They utilized the long ball again, with Ben McNeill (NYIT) and Andrew Selima (Holy Cross) hitting back to back home runs in the third inning to give the Bravehearts an early 4-0 lead. Worcester tacked on another run that inning when a Trevor Johnson (Dartmouth) single scored Joseph Pesce (NYIT).
Neither team scored again until EJ Exposito, another NYIT product, doubled in Ben Rice (Dartmouth) in the sixth. The Hearts' struck again with three runs in the 7th inning, one of which was an RBI single by Shrewsbury's Nick Martin (Westfield State).
While the Bravehearts hitting was running on all cylinders, so was the pitching. The Worcester pitching staff didn't give up a run until the 9th inning, this comes after shutting out the Brockton Rox on Sunday. It started with five shutout innings from Eric Chavarria, who struck out six while picking up his first win of the season. Next out of the pen was Shrewsbury's own, John West (Boston College). He had two consecutive 1-2-3 innings, before giving way to Mitchell Pascarella (UConn) who struck out two in a 1-2-3 inning of his own.
The Silver Knights finally got on the board in the ninth, with two runs.
The Bravehearts head to New Britain to face the Bees tomorrow night with first pitch coming at 6:35pm.
