Rochester Knighthawks News Release

Goalie Brandon Styres has signed a one-year deal with the Rochester Knighthawks of the National Lacrosse League. Styres will embark on his second straight Training Camp with the defending NLL champs and cannot wait to get back to work.

"I am lot more prepared this year," said the 21-year-old netminder. "I have been training hard and have had my pads on every day."

Styres has been taking shots daily at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena from 2015 Rochester draft picks Ian Martin and Brier Jonathan, as the trio prepares for the start of Knighthawks Training Camp on Saturday, November 22 nd .

"I have seen him in the gym," said Knighthawks forward Cody Jamieson. "He is always striving to make himself better."

"He's a young kid who wants to make it in this league," said Knighthawks Assistant Captain Mike Kirk. "He keeps working hard, talks to the right guys, and gets the right coaching from other goalies in the league. He'll bring that young fire (to camp) and hopefully he'll help push the other guys to get better."

Styres enters camp after a career-best summer in which he registered a 9-2 record, a 7.45 goals-against average and an .803 save percentage in the Junior "B" circuit. He began the season with a win with the eventual Founders Cup champion Six Nations Rebels, and finished the year by backstopping the Niagara Thunderhawks to a berth in the postseason.

In fact, after going 8-2 during the regular season with Niagara, Styres led the Thunderhawks to their first ever playoff series win. Even more impressive was his play against Six Nations, as he limited the Rebels, who averaged over 17 goals per game, to single-digits in two of the three postseason games.

"I wanted to play against the best because that is the best way to get better," said Styres about making the move from the Rebels to the Thunderhawks.

He was rewarded for his stellar 2014 season with a call up to the Six Nations Arrows for the Junior "A" Minto Cup. It was an incredible trip to Langley, BC, which gave him an opportunity to gain more playoff experience.

"It was a great experience. They made me feel like I was a part of the team all season long," he said. "We practiced every day and I was always there a half hour early and stayed a half hour after practice to take shots."

Styres' extra floor time could very well have been one of the reasons the Arrows' offense started to click after Game Two. Six Nations exploded for 19 goals in Game Three and never looked back as it won four straight games to win the Minto Cup in six games.

In 2013, Rochester made NLL history as Owner and General Manager Curt Styres selected his son with the 55th pick in the sixth round of the NLL Entry Draft. One year later, Brandon is ready for another shot at Training Camp.

"I have been eating right, taking shots and studying video," he said. "I am ready and pumped for this Training Camp."
