COLUMBUS, GA, August 9 - Head Coach and Director of Football Operations Jason Gibson League today announced the retention of Brandon Reed as Defensive Coordinator and Sales Representative for the 2012 Southern Indoor Football League season. Reed, a Phenix City native and Russell County H.S. graduate, earned a marketing degree from Troy University and played defensive back for the San Francisco 49'ers (2004-05), New York Jets (2006), Hamburg Sea Devils of NFL Europe (2006), AFL Orlando Predators (2007) and Tampa Bay Storm (2008).

He coached the Southern Indoor Football League's leading defense in 2010-11, including Defensive Player of the Year Damian Daniels (DB), first-teamer Justen Rivers (LB) and second-teamer Chris Bradwell (DL). The Lions yielded an SIFL-low 39.0 points per game (vs. 61.2 points scored) and averaged 100 yards more on offense than Reed's defense allowed.

Gibson said of Reed "Brandon is the backbone of our defense. The players respect him not only because of his experience in the NFL and AFL but for his ability to teach the game. It's like having a second head coach on defense."

Reed said "I am very excited to be back as a member of the Columbus Lions organization for a third season, and am certainly eager to assist in producing another championship for the city of Columbus and the entire Chattahoochee Valley".

Vice President of Sales and Marketing Rick Jacobson announced the hiring of Jack Braswell to the Lions' sales staff. A Columbus native and Central High of Phenix City graduate, Braswell is a longtime Lions season ticket holder and avid fan, with 16 years retail management experience in the Columbus and Atlanta markets, most recently with MovieStop, a video games rental franchise, and before that with national chains Eddie Bauer, Inc. and Bombay Co.

Braswell recently completed his 17th year of coaching girls and coed soccer, including several coaching his daughter Kathryn. His passion and enthusiasm for indoor football have already brought several new customers to the rapidly expanding Lions' customer and fan base.

Charlie McLochlin also returns to the Lions staff as administrative assistant, heavily involved in football operations and working with the coaching staff. McLochlin is a Glenwood School graduate currently attending Columbus State University and majoring in finance.
