Brampton A's Hold off Late Surge Winning 115-105

November 26, 2013 - National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada) - Orangeville A's News Release

Brampton, ON. - The A's fought off a late come back by the Windsor Express as they came away with a 115-105 victory for their fifth straight win, bringing their record to 9-2.

Another balanced attack for Coach David Magley and his team, as they got things done on the defensive end, holding the Express to just 39% shooting for the game.

With the defense clicking, the offense started to fall in place for the A's, with excellent production from the bench, outscoring the Express bench 74-17. Shooting 49% from the field, 46% from 3pt line, and 78% from the charity stripe.

At the half, assistant coach Joe Cook reiterated the message in the locker room, "Continue our intensity & discipline on the defensive end, work the ball around, and try to limit our turnovers."

Turnovers would be a key factor in the second half, as the Express put on full court pressure and were able to force, and capitalize on turnovers.

The Express would get it as close as four points, and down eight heading into the final quarter. Basketball is a game of runs, and it would be how the A's respond to the run from Windsor that would allow them to finally pull away late, solidifying the win.

"We stayed with it, guys got into foul trouble - Flenard Whitfield fouled out - but the next guy was ready, and we continued to stay focused on what was important, that was our intensity on the defensive end.

When we can play together defensively, things happen for us offensively, and we kept with it tonight," said Head Coach Magley.

Whitfield left the game just two rebounds shy of another double- double, 13pts/8rbs. Leading the scoring for the A's with 19pts 12rbs was Cavell Johnson, and Evaldas Zabas with 19pts 5ast, shooting 11-11 from the charity stripe.

The A's will get a few days off before their next game, which is at home on Monday December 2nd, 7:00PM at The Powerade Centre.
