Orangeville A's News Release
ORANGEVILLE, Ontario. - The Brampton A's added depth in the low post in signing Tony Davis and Adrian Harrison. Both Davis and Harrison are 6' 8" players and hail from Florida joining Evaldas Zabas, Jameson Tipping, Dipanjot Singh, Rick Bodiford, Cavell Johnson, Scottie Haralson and Jordan Hamilton for the first year franchise.
In Davis and Harrison, A's GM/Head Coach David Magley, loves their length and athleticism, "both guys are very slender athletes with in excess of 7'0 wing spans. This will allow them to guard up to 3 and 4 positions and that flexibility allows us a lot of different looks on both offense and defense."
At the University of Central Florida, Davis was a starter and very good performer for the Conference USA squad. His junior season he was the leading rebounder in the conference and had professional stints in both Turkey and China, prior to signing with the A's. Coach Magley has been aware of both players as they often would play and train at Bradenton Christian School in Florida where he was the head coach for several years, "when I coached in Florida Tony would train at our gym. We had multiple Division I players from Western Kentucky to Wichita State and Tony battled hard every day. He was a pro back then, never backing down from anyone and always a good teammate who was good to be around."
For his part, Davis is excited to be going to Canada, "I got to spend a good week this summer training at the A's facility, the Athlete Institute in Orangeville, ON and it was amazing. In just 5 days of training I felt stronger and in better shape than I had in a long time. I have no doubt that this year will help me become the best that I can be."
Harrison, a one time assistant coach for Magley, went through the trenches of the tryout process, "I let my assistants and others vote on him and quite frankly he was the best player the day he tried out. I am excited to get to work with him as a player, since I know him so well as a person."
Harrison began his collegiate career at Winston Salem State University and finished at Milligan. He shares his new coaches enthusiasm for the opportunity, "this is a once in a lifetime deal for me. I always thought that I could be a pro and played against pros during the summers but pretty much accepted that this might not happen. When Coach Magley called, I visited with my wife Brooke and we just went for it. This is very exciting for all of us."
The A's first pre-season game is October the 25th at 7:00 PM at the Powerade Centre against the Ottawa SkyHawks and they will take the court again on Sunday the 27th @ 2:00 PM at Budweiser Gardens against the NBL's two time defending champions London Lightning.
The Brampton A's will begin their inaugural season November 1st and will be playing in the Powerade Centre. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster or at www.bramtponas.ca.
