Orangeville A's News Release
For the 3rd week in a row, the Brampton A's are announcing another Canadian as the newest member of their 2014-15 roster, Ashton Smith of Scarborough, ON.
Smith comes to the A's as a veteran of the NBL Canada as he played last season for both the Saint John Mill Rats and the Mississauga Power.
Collegiately, Ashton played ball in the USA, playing 4 years for Indiana University Pennsylvania, an NCAA Division 2 powerhouse. He was named an All-American his senior year, after averaging 18 points per game and contributing to his team making a Final Four appearance.
A's GM/Head Coach David Magley noticed Smith last year and kept a close watch on him throughout the summer. "When I saw him play last year I liked his athleticism and poise. Â During the summer as I watched him, I noticed he had another gear that I hadn't seen yet, so we invited him up a few weeks ago to work out for us. I was blown away by his acumen, ability to defend and move without the ball."
The A's are expecting the 6'3 guard to be able to play up to three positions and help keep the pace as the team presses to improve upon their league leading offense of last year.
The Brampton A's begin their 2nd season at the Powerade Centre Saturday November 1st, against Peel Region rival the Mississauga Power.
