Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
The Fort Worth Brahmas felt right at home in Frisco, as they skated to a blowout 8-1 win over the Oklahoma City Blazers in a Central Hockey League preseason game Saturday night.
The story of the game, which was played as a specialexhibition at the Deja Blue Arena at the Dr Pepper StarCenter in Frisco, was the Brahmas balanced offensive attack. Eight different Fort Worth players--forwards Chad Peck, Derrell Upton, Jan Jas, Mike Reagan, Chad Woollard and Brian Bansner, as well as defenseman Brad Lukowich and Adam Davis--scored goals in the game.
The goal scoring barrage provided more than enough offense for Fort Worth netminder Dan Murphy, who got the win by stopping 20 of the 21 Blazers shots he faced in the game. In fact, the only goal that Murphy allowed was on a penalty shot midway through the second period of the game. The Blazers penalty shot was taken as part of a trial rule that allowed Oklahoma City head coach Doug Sauter to opt for a penalty shot instead of a powerplay when a minor charging penalty was called on Fort Worth winger Brian Bansner. Oklahoma City forward Jamie Miller converted the penalty shot for the lone Blazers goal.
Miller's goal pulled the Blazers to within 2-1 at the 3:10 mark of the second period. Fort Worth answered the Blazers score with six unanswered goals to close out the game.
The win by Fort Worth completed a two game weekend sweep of the Blazers by the Brahmas. Fort Worth defeated Oklahoma City 4-3 on Friday night in Oklahoma City.
The Brahmas will now turn their attention to their 2004-2005 season opener, next Friday night, October 22 at the Century-Tel Center in Bossier City, Louisiana. The Brahmas will take on the Mudbugs at 7:05 p.m. Fort Worth will play their first three games of the season on the road before returning to Cowtown on Saturday, October 30 for their home opener against Bossier-Shreveport at the Fort Worth Convention Center.
