Fort Worth Brahmas News Release

MOLINE, Illinois (March 3) - The Brahmas (32-18-7) closed out their four-game road trip with a 3-2 shootout loss to the Quad City Mallards Sunday afternoon, earning a point and pulling to within six points of first place in the Central Hockey League.

The Brahmas held a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes of play as Austin Mayer notched the lone goal of the opening frame at the 13:17 mark. Mayer's 10th score came on a wrister from the right face-off circle that caromed off of a Mallards' defenseman and into the back of the net.

Quad City quickly took a 2-1 lead early in the second period with scores from Mickey Lang and Obi Aduba at 1:41 and 2:16, respectively.

Taylor McReynolds, the newest member of the Fort Worth squad, evened the score at 2-2 when he fired a shot from the high slot past Mallards netminder Neil Conway at 16:30 of the second period. For McReynolds, the score was his first as a Brahma in just his second game with the team.

After a scoreless final frame and five-minute overtime period, the contest went to a shootout. Despite conversions from John Snowden and Brendon Hodge, the Brahmas could not come out on top. Anthony Perdicaro, Shayne Toporowski and former-Brahma Mike Hellyer each found the back of the net in the shootout. Toporowski is credited with the game-winning goal.

Kristofer Westblom (20-6-4) stopped 26 of 28 shots and one of four shootout attempts between the posts for Fort Worth. Conway made 29 saves on 31 shots and stopped three of five in the shootout to earn his 12th victory of the season.

Neither team converted on the power play. On the man advantage, the Brahmas went 0-for-3 and the Mallards were 0-for-1.

The team is back in action at the NYTEX Sports Centre Wednesday, March 6 when they face off against the Wichita Thunder at 7:30pm on Beer League Night. The Brahmas will wear specialty jerseys, which will be autographed and auctioned off immediately following the game Saturday, March 9.
