NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (December 16) - The Brahmas fell 4-3 in a shootout to the Wichita Thunder Sunday afternoon but did extend its point streak at home to eight games.
Fort Worth entered the first intermission with a 2-1 lead after an action-packed opening frame. The Brahmas got first-period goals from rookie Austin Mayer and the team's leading scorer Phil Fox, while Wichita's goal was scored by RG Flath.
After a scoreless middle frame, the Thunder tied the score just 2:41 into the third period as Greger Hanson deflected the puck past Brahmas netminder Kristofer Westblom.
Fox regained the lead for the Brahmas only 1:18 later with his second score of the night and 14th this season. For Fox, it was his second consecutive multi-goal game.
At the 11:55 mark, the Thunder were awarded a 5-on-3 powerplay after two Brahmas boarding penalties. Kevin Young made Fort Worth pay and tied the score at 3 as he fired a slapshot from the slot into the back of the net.
The game remained even through regulation and overtime and headed to a shootout, where the Thunder came out on top after eight rounds thanks to conversions from Todd Griffith and Hanson.
Westblom (5-1-2) stopped 33 of 36 shots and six of eight in the shootout in a losing effort. Wichita goaltender Torrie Jung made 23 saves on 26 shots to improve to 6-2-0 this season.
Despite Sunday's shootout loss, the Brahmas earned a point and extended their point streak at home to eight games, dating back to November 21. Fort Worth is now 8-1-4 in front of its hometown faithful.
The Brahmas are back in action Wednesday night at 7:30pm at the NYTEX Sports Centre for a rematch versus the Wichita Thunder. The matchup will be the fifth meeting this season between the two teams.
The Brahmas have reduced individual ticket prices from a season ago, as well as lowering the price of full-season, half-season and 11-game ticket packages for the 2012-2013 season. For more ticket information, please contact a Brahmas sales representative at 817-336-4423 or visit www.brahmas.com.
