Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas - The Brahmas dropped a physical, back-and-forth contest to the Americans Friday night, as Allen forward Scotty Howes scored the go-ahead and game-winning goal with under four minutes to play in regulation.
The Americans took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission despite being outshot 14-7 by the Brahmas. Tyler Ludwig and Howes notched the goals for Allen.
Fort Worth responded with a dominant second period, scoring three unanswered goals to take a 3-2 edge after forty minutes. Sy Nutkevitch scored the first Brahma goal at 6:58 on a deflection on the doorstep. Calin Wild added the second score at 11:25 on a rebound loose in front of the net. Tomas Klempa gave the Brahmas a 3-2 lead on a give-and-go with his linemate Nutkevitch at 17:37.
Allen forwards Anthony Maiani and Darryl Bootland each scored within the first four minutes of the third period to give the Americans a 4-3 lead, but Wild found the back of the net for the second time of the night to knot it up at four goals apiece - the third tie of the night.
With only 3:36 to play in regulation, Howes snuck the puck past Brahmas netminder Kristofer Westblom to give Allen the 5-4 lead. Howes' score was the eventual game-winner.
Westblom (7-3-2) stopped 17 of 22 shots between the posts for Fort Worth en route to his first regulation loss at home this season. Allen goaltender Steve Silverthorn made 27 saves on 31 shots faced, earning his 10th victory of the season.
The Brahmas struggled on special teams Friday night, notching just one powerplay goal on a season-high seven opportunities. The Americans were 3-for-5 on the man advantage.
The two teams will face off again tomorrow night at 7:05pm at the Allen Event Center. The Brahmas are back at the NYTEX Sports Centre Monday, December 31 to take on the Wichita Thunder in a New Year's Eve match-up.
The Brahmas have reduced individual ticket prices from a season ago, as well as lowering the price of full-season, half-season and 11-game ticket packages for the 2012-2013 season. For more ticket information, please contact a Brahmas sales representative at 817-336-4423 or visit www.brahmas.com.
