May 8, 2017 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Lansing Lugnuts News Release
SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Minor League Baseball announced Monday afternoon that Lansing Lugnuts infielder Bradley Jones has been named the Midwest League April Player of the Month.
Jones, 21, was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays out of the College of Charleston in the 18th round of the 2016 draft. A native of Travelers Rest, South Carolina, he topped all MWL batters in home runs (six), RBIs (23) and total bases (58) in the opening month of the year, ranking second in batting average (.372), base hits (32), slugging percentage (.674) and OPS (1.089).
The offensive success follows an impressive professional debut in which Jones led the 2016 Appalachian League in home runs, RBIs, extra-base hits and total bases. Still, he entered the 2017 season unranked among MLB.com's and Baseball America's Top 30 Blue Jays prospects.
Jones becomes the first Lugnut honored by the Midwest League in 2017. Fellow infielders Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. and Bo Bichette were named to Baseball America's April Prospect Team of the Month.
The Lugnuts open a six-game road trip at 7:30 p.m. tonight with the first of three games in Clinton, Ia., against the Seattle Mariners-affiliated LumberKings.
The next Lansing Lugnuts homestand runs from Monday, May 15th, through Wednesday, May 17th, against the Fort Wayne TinCaps. Tickets may be purchased at the Cooley Law School Stadium box office, by calling (517) 485-4500 or via lansinglugnuts.com.
