JOLIET, IL - The Joliet JackHammers have started their new year off right by re-signing veteran outfielder Brad Correll, a move that showcases the team's commitment towards a 2010 Northern League Championship. The 28-year-old North Carolina native hit .286 with seven home runs and 38 RBI's in just 40 games for Joliet in 2009 before being picked up by the Boston Red Sox organization. The Orange Crush open their season May 21st on the road against the reigning Northern League champion Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks.
"Brad Correll is a tremendous asset to our club," says JackHammers Field Manager Chad Parker. "He embodies everything we want in our players on and off the field. Brad has great character and leadership qualities that will give stability to our clubhouse."
Selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 29th round of the 2002 draft, Correll signed with the club that June and was traded to the Phillies in 2004. From 2007 to 2009, Correll began each season with the Kansas City T-Bones of the Northern League, but ended each season in affiliated ball with the Houston Astros, Kansas City Royals, and Boston Red Sox respectively. The JackHammers signed the lifetime .283 hitter mid-season in 2009 after he was released by the T-Bones.
