Bowen Byram Named WHL McSweeney's Player of the Month

Vancouver, B.C. - The Vancouver Giants in conjunction with the Western Hockey League announced today that 2001-born defenceman Bowen Byram (Cranbrook, B.C.) has been named the WHL McSweeney's Player of the Month for February.
In 12 February games, Bowen Byram scored seven goals and added 17 assists for 24 points. He recorded points in all 12 of those games, while helping the Giants to an 11-1 February record. Byram's February highlights included: A five-game goal streak (Feb. 12 - Feb. 21), nine multi-point games and a +17 rating.
Originally selected third overall by the Giants in the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft, Bowen Byram has scored 11 goals and added 37 assists for 48 points in 47 games so far this season. In 185 career WHL games, the Colorado Avalanche prospect has scored 43 goals along with 103 assists. His 146 points place him third all-time in scoring amongst Vancouver Giants defencemen. Last season Byram set a WHL single-season record with six overtime winning goals. He also became the Giants single-season goal scoring leader for a defenceman with 26 tallies.
Some other recent highlights for Bowen Byram include:
- Capturing a Gold Medal at the 2020 World Juniors with Canada (January, 2020).
- Signing an entry-level contract with the NHL's Colorado Avalanche (July, 2019) after he was selected fourth overall in the 2019 NHL Draft (June, 2019).
- Leading the 2019 WHL Playoffs in scoring with 26 points in 22 games (May, 2019).
Since January 2019, Byram has received three monthly WHL Player of the Month honours (January 2019, April 2019 and February 2020).
The Vancouver Giants return to action on Wednesday, March 4th in Kamloops, marking the start of a three-game road trip that also includes a weekend double-header in Prince George on March 6th and 7th. The next home game for the G-Men takes place on Friday, March 13th against the Seattle Thunderbirds.
