Asheville Altitude News Release
GREENVILLE, S.C., June 30 â Rudy Bourg has been named Team President of the Asheville Altitude, according to an announcement by National Basketball Development League President Phil Evans. Bourg replaces Alfred White, who has accepted a position as Associate Commissioner for Administration with Conference USA.
"We're certainly going to miss Alfred, but we're thrilled we already had someone in market with Rudy's experience," Evans said. "Rudy's been based out of Asheville since last June, and is already a familiar face to many of our Altitude customers, so we should be able to make the transition a smooth one.
"I'm confident Rudy will use his experience in the sports industry, including a stint as an NBDL team president, to improve upon the foundation that Alfred and the Altitude staff have built in Western North Carolina over the past three years," Evans said.
Bourg will take over the position in Asheville after serving the last year as senior director of sales and marketing for the NBDL, duties he will continue to hold. He was team president for the Mobile Revelers in 2002-03.
A former executive in minor league hockey prior to joining the NBDL in August of 2002, Bourg will be responsible for overseeing all of the club's operations including sponsorship and ticket sales, business affairs, human resources, community relations, marketing, promotions and communications.
"The NBDL continues to offer me the chance to combine and utilize my experience in marketing, sales, business planning and staff development," said Bourg, the father of two sons, MacKenzie, 11, and Peyton, 9. "I am inheriting a quality staff and am excited about continuing to get established in the Asheville community, being involved and putting down roots."
Prior to the NBDL, Bourg's experience in minor league sports came from holding various positions with the Louisiana Ice Gators of the East Coast Hockey League, including Vice President of Business Operations/Sales and Promotions, as well as being responsible for the day-to-day operations of the hockey franchise and serving on the ECHL Board of Governors.
White will begin his duties with Conference USA in August. He plans to remain in Asheville through July to assure a smooth transition.
"This is a bittersweet time for me," White said. "This position has afforded me the opportunity to meet some great people in this business like David Stern, Russ Granik and Phil Evans, not to mention the great people of Asheville and Western North Carolina. Those relationships are something I will miss.
"Still, I am very much looking forward to returning to college athletics where I believe I have a calling, as well as an affinity for helping young men and women mature into positive role models and productive citizens," White said.
A celebration to honor White and his accomplishments over the years as an active civic member of the Asheville and Western North Carolina community, as well as his three years as president of the Altitude, is being planned for mid-July.
