Boston Breakers News Release
BOSTON (October 15, 2008) - The Boston Breakers were awarded the number one pick for January's Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) Draft as a result of a lottery between the league's seven teams.
The draft, to be conducted the week of Jan. 14, 2009, is a multi-round draft for players who participated in either the WPS West Coast Combine or the WPS East Coast Combine (which will include players who will have just completed their NCAA eligibility) as well as any other undrafted players who have applied to be drafted.
With the addition of the top collegiate seniors into the pool, this will give the Breakers the opportunity to add another Olympic gold medalist from the U.S. Women's National Team onto the roster.
Like the WPS General Draft two weeks ago, the selection order will be descending-ascending (1-7, 7-1, etc...), so the Breakers' next two picks will be Nos. 14 and 15.
The Boston Breakers inaugural twenty-plus game season will open in April of 2009 and continue through August. The team will play its home matches at Harvard Stadium and Season Ticket Memberships are on sale, beginning at $130. For package details and a seating chart, visit www.bostonbreakers.com.
