Boston, MA. Dan Savage, CEO of the ABA Boston Frenzy professional basketball team today announced the signing of Joe "Jellybean" Bryant as Head Coach and Len Desautels at Top Assistant Coach of the team scheduled to begin play in November. According to Savage, "When we decided to do an ABA team in Boston, on day one, we targeted Joe and Len - and we got 'em. And are we thrilled."
Joe Bryant, a native Philadelphia, starred in basketball at LaSalle University and was a first-round draft pick for the Philadelphia 76ers where he played for eight years before going to the San Diego Clippers and Houston Rockets. Bryant topped off his playing career in Europe and then moved into coaching and managing. He has served as an Assistant Coach at LaSalle University, General Manager of Olimpia Milano, an Italian basketball team and last season as coach of the ABA Las Vegas Rattlers. Joe currently resides with his wife of 29 years, Pamela. They have three children, Sharla, Shaya and their youngest, Kobe, who plays for the Los Angeles Lakers.
Bryant stated, "I've been around basketball my whole life - from high school to college to the NBA to the international arena - and now the ABA. My goal is to make our team the premiere team in the league."
Len Desautels comes to the Boston Frenzy after 13 seasons as the top assistant at UMass-Dartmouth. He has an extensive background coaching basketball in Connecticut before moving to Massachusetts. Len is now a professor of U.S. History and American Government at Quincy College in Plymouth.
