Boston Breakers Look To Rebound vs. Carolina Courage on Saturday

NEEDHAM, MA (Tuesday, April 15, 2003) - The Boston Breakers will play the third road game of the 2003 WUSA season on Saturday, April 19 (7 p.m.) against the Carolina Courage at SAS Park in Cary, North Carolina. The Breakers will need to rebound from last week's loss to Atlanta. The Breakers are now 1-1-0, in fourth place with three points.

Carolina is coming off a bye week after falling to the Washington Freedom on April 5th, 2-1. The last meeting between the Breakers and Courage ended in a 2-1 loss for the locals. The Courage won on an own goal.

Key Matchup: Carolina's front line of Danielle Fotopoulos and Birgit Prinz against the Breakers defense - Kate Sobrero and Monica Gonzalez. The Breakers defense had a lapse last week vs. Atlanta and will now need to adjust from playing the quick and tricky Atlanta forwards to the powerful and skillful Carolina forwards. Fotopoulos has scorched the Breakers for three goals in her career while Prinz had one last season.

Norwegian Showdown: Breakers forward Dagny Mellgren will be greeted by some friends on the other side of the field this week. Mellgren and Carolina midfielders Hege Riise and Unni Lehn play together on the Norwegian National Team.

Record Setter: Kristine Lilly league leading point-scoring streak came to an end last week. The steak stands at 11 consecutive games with a goal or an assist. Lilly's streak began on June 22nd, 2001 when she had three assists in the Breakers 5-2 victory over New York.

International Games: The Canadian National Team has two friendly matches this weekend in South Carolina on April 18th and 20th against Nigeria. Karina LeBlanc will remain with the Breakers and join Canada for the second match in South Carolina.

Stephanie Mugneret-Beghe is with the French National Team this week to play in the friendly against Germany on Thursday. She will meet the Breakers in North Carolina to take on the Carolina Courage on Saturday.

Player Appearances

Thursday, April 17, 6 p.m. - The Breakers will be honored at Fenway Park, as Kristine Lilly will throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the Red Sox/Tampa Bay game.

Ticket Information: During the Boston Breakers 2003 season, families of individuals serving in the United States Armed Forces can catch a break on ticket prices for a regular season match. Spouses of those in active duty or in the reserves will save $3 off each on up to 4 tickets when they present their military ID cards at the Nickerson Field Box Office.
