Boston Blazers News Release
BOSTON (February 20, 2009) - The National Lacrosse League today announced that Boston Blazers defenseman Mitch Belisle and goaltender Anthony Cosmo have been selected to play in the 2009 NLL All-Star Game, taking place at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colo., on March 7. Belisle and Cosmo will suit up as reserve players for the East Division All-Star team joining teammate Dan Dawson who was selected as a starter earlier this week. The trio becomes the first Blazers ever selected to the All-Star Game.
This marks Belisle's first All-Star appearance and Cosmo's fourth All-Star selection.
Over the first seven games of Boston's inaugural 2009 season, Belisle and Cosmo have helped to solidify the Blazers defense and help the team to a 4-3 record and third place in the NLL East Division standings. Behind the play of Belisle and Cosmo, the Blazers have allowed a mere 39 goals (7.8 goals against average) in the last five contests while holding opponents to less than 10 points each of the last four games. For the season, Cosmo has paced the Blazers defense with .779 save percentage (sixth in the league) and a 10.04 goals against average. Belisle has been stabilizing force for the Boston defensive corps, scoring two goals and scooping 33 loose balls.
The All-Star teams will each be coached by a member of the league's Hall of Fame Class of 2009. Jim Veltman will coach the Eastern Division All-Stars, while Dallas Eliuk will coach the Western Division All-Stars. Both will be inducted into the league's Hall of Fame on March 7, in a ceremony to take place at Pepsi Center in the afternoon. The All-Star Game will be played later that evening.
