BOSSIER CITY, LA (May 23, 2008)- BattleWings' Head Coach Jon Norris held is own with the best of them Thursday in the Celebrity Crawfish Eating Contest at Mudbug Madness in downtown Shreveport.

Norris, who was born in Wales, grew up in Connecticut, but is finding Louisiana cuisine to his liking.

"It was a lot of fun," Norris said. "From where I come from, these are just little lobsters. I enjoyed the food as much as the competition."

This was Norris' second time to participate in the contest and he fared much better health-wise this year. In last year's contest, Norris fell of the stage and obliterated his rotator cuff resulting in off-season surgery. He's been training for this event since last year and has had the date circled on his calendar. With that sort of commitment, Norris was quite disappointed in the judging.

"As a football coach, I usually cannot comment on officiating, but in the Crawfish Eating Contest, I have a few issues," Norris added. "There was very little, if any, meat left in my discard tray. I question the judgment of the officials in allowing excess ‘tail matter' in some of my opponents discard trays."

Norris has formally lodged a complaint with the National Federation of Crawfish Eating Contests. Officials from the Federation in Thibodaux were meeting with Senator Arlen Specter and have began an investigation into what is being termed "tail-gate."
