Wichita Wingnuts News Release

SIOUX CITY, Iowa - Alex Boshers won his seventh straight decision and 10th of the year overall as the Wichita Wingnuts knocked off the Sioux City Explorers 5-1 Saturday night at Mercy Field at Lewis & Clark Park.

For the third straight game in the series the Wingnuts (44-27) scored first, plating three in the second. After a one-out single and an error, Brennen Salgado brought home a pair with a two-run triple off of Cody Forsythe (3-7). Leo Vargas then followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0.

Tyler Ogle led off the bottom of the inning with a solo homer, but that was all the Explorers (35-37) could muster against Boshers (10-2). After a leadoff single in the fourth, Boshers retired the next 10 in a row, and at one point in the evening, set down 16 of 17.

The only inning in which multiple Explorers reached was the eighth, Boshers' final frame of the night. Sioux City got a leadoff double and a one-out walk, but the righty worked around it to post his sixth straight zero. For the night, Boshers allowed one run on four hits over eight innings, and set a new career-high with seven strikeouts.

Wichita added a pair of insurance runs thanks to Richard Prigatano. After a pair of singles started the sixth, a Prigatano sacrifice fly brought in Matt Chavez to extend the lead to four. Prigatano then hit a line drive homer down the line in left in the ninth to make it 5-1.

In the bottom of the ninth, James Campbell took over for Boshers, and after a lead off single, retired the next three to seal the victory for Wichita.

The Wingnuts and Explorers wrap up their four-game set and regular season series Sunday evening at Mercy Field at Lewis & Clark Park. Veteran right-hander Tim Brown (2-1, 7.40) will toe the rubber for Wichita, while Sioux City will counter with fellow righty Justin Vernia (1st start). First pitch is set for 6:05, and the game will be broadcast on 1410 AM/93.9 FM KGSO, TuneIn and americanassociationbaseball.tv.

The Wingnuts return to Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Monday, August 7 to begin a three-game series against the Lincoln Saltdogs.
