SCHAUMBURG, IL- The Windy City ThunderBolts fell to the Schaumburg Boomers 12-4 Friday evening at Wintrust Field.
A seven-run fifth for the Boomers and 11 unanswered runs cost the Bolts in the contest.
Windy City (32-43) struck the first run of the ball game off a Bren Spillane big fly, putting the Bolts up 1-0.
The Boomers (43-32) knotted the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first with a two-out base knock by Gaige Howard.
The ThunderBolts struck an RBI single by Junior Martina in the top of the third inning, making it 2-1 Windy City. The next man to the plate, Spillane, blasted his second home run of the night, making it a 4-1 Bolts lead.
Schaumburg came to bat in the bottom of the third inning. A two-run double by Howard made it 4-3. Following a sacrifice fly by Blake Berry, Kyle Fitzgerald belted a base hit to left, giving the Boomers the 5-4 lead.
The Boomers accumulated two more runs from an RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the fifth by Blake Grant-Parks. Following a wild pitch, Chase Dawson doubled, clearing the bases with three runs. Batting through the order, Howard once more crushed a two-run single to center, giving the Boomers a commanding 12-4 lead.
Windy City starting pitcher Cole Bellair (2-9) threw four innings, surrendering seven runs on seven hits while walking seven and striking out two.
With a pair of homers, Spillane shattered his career high of 12 in 2022.
The Bolts are back in action at Wintrust Field for a 6:05 CDT start against the Schaumburg Boomers. Windy City's Logan Schmitt (4-3, 5.13) starts against Schaumburg righty Hunter Hopkins (2-1, 4.29). The broadcast can be found through wcthunderbolts.com.
