Snohomish County Explosion News Release

Everett, WA- The Snohomish County Explosion sent mascot Boomer to hang out with abused and neglect children of Snohomish County. This was part of the National Adoption Day celebration at the Snohomish County Superior Courthouse on Friday, November 16th. Twenty-two deserving children were placed with loving families. Boomer entertained the children and families prior to their court hearings. "It was an honor to be invited to such a worthy event," stated Director of Ticketing Zack Mennie. "Boomer had a great time laughing and playing with some amazing kids!"

*According to the most recent data available, there are approximately 800,000 children in foster care in the United States, and 114,000 of them are awaiting adoption. Since 1987, the number of children in foster care has nearly doubled, and the average time a child spends in foster care has lengthened to nearly 3 years. Each year, approximately 20,000 children in foster care will "age out" of the system without ever being placed with a permanent family.

Here in Snohomish County, approximately 250 children are adopted each year, and last year 198 of the children adopted in Snohomish County had been in foster care prior to adoption. Adoption has touched most people's lives - whether an immediate family member, a relative, friend, or co-worker - there are few who have not been impacted by adoption in one way or another. A national survey showed that four of ten Americans have considered adoption. With this in mind, the state's Commission on Children in Foster Care, and the Superior Court Judge's Association has taken steps to bring the national celebration to Washington State. Snohomish County Superior Court is making this an annual celebration.
