JUPITER -- Boof Bonser didn't allow a hit in his return to the mound for the first time in 2009, but Fort Myers couldn't mount late rallies against Jupiter as the Hammerheads swept a three-game series.
Jupiter took game one 3-1 and game two 6-5 in Sunday's doubleheader. Boof Bonser pitched the fourth inning in the first game, recording a 1-2-3 frame against Danny Garcia, Hunter Mense, and Jameson Smith. Bonser got Garcia to fly to center, Mense to strike out swinging, and Smith to fly out to left.
He started the top of the fifth but missed high with his fastball on the way to walking Osvaldo Martinez. That was the end of the day for the former first-round pick of the San Francisco Giants. He was dealt to Minnesota along with Francisco Liriano and Joe Nathan for A.J. Pierzynski on November 14, 2003.
He hasn't pitched all year due to shoulder surgery. He last appeared in a professional game in September 2008.
David Bromberg will take the hill in the opener of the playoffs on Tuesday night at Charlotte Sports Park.
